Building Automation With Canned Emails

This month, we’ve been talking all about automation. I know it can be a sticky topic that people avoid, but it’s 100% worth talking about because I truly believe automation allows you to find bandwidth and regain control over your creative process. And one of my favorite ways to build automation into my business is with canned emails.

For Mae&Co, creating canned emails was one of the best things I did to get my brain space back. And I’m not saying you should send emails that sound robotic and go out without your approval. With any canned email, it’s still important to add your human touch and your brand voice – you can still add that personal touch.  

If you don’t have canned emails, go back through one of your projects and look for common threads. What are you sending over and over again?

Think about the emails you’ve sent this month. When you look at emails, ask yourself:

  • Is this a process or topic that takes a long time to explain to a client?
  • Is this an email that always feels like a heavy lift, because there’s just to much info to include?
  • Is generic follow up/check in email?
  • Does this email talk about a system your client needs to know about?

If you’ve said “yes” to any of these questions, it’s time to get serious about canned emails.

Honestly, here’s my hot take: if you write any email more than twice, make it a canned email.
