Let’s talk about your client onboarding process. This topic doesn’t end up in the spotlight very often, I’ll be the first to admit it’s not nearly as fun as breaking down a tablescape design or talking about where to source client gifts. But in my years of experience, I’ve learned that a strong client onboarding can make or break a client’s experience, and it is one of my top tools for setting client expectations and boundaries.
I'll be honest, our onboarding process is intensive and it’s something I’ve spent years perfecting. It takes hours to get our clients and team set up for success once we have a new booking, but it saves us so much time – and it creates a smoother process for our clients – in the long run.
Until I created Mae&Co Monthly, I’d never shared this process with anyone. But this is one of my most requested topics, and I want to share a high-level overview of my six-step onboarding process.
After a client officially signs the proposal, my team works through these steps:
- Create a project board using your favorite internal organization system
- Assign all tasks and schedule task dates for your team
- Send your client a welcome packet detailing what to expect in the coming months
- Send your client a planning questionnaire
- Start building out a client profile using your favorite external organization system
- Send this profile to your clients and give them homework!
